I don’t know for sure what year I met Barbara, but it had to be in the 70’s. She was part of the Dallas ARMA ‘gang’. I was the new kid on the block and Barbara, Pat, Marilyn, Karen and Honoree welcomed me with open arms. Like everyone she met, I remember Barbara as always smiling and talking. She never met a stranger and could be best friends by the end of the conversation. The ‘gang’ attended many ARMA conventions together, but the one I remember best was the Phoenix one. Barbara and I shared a room and got little sleep for the talking. We all spent one afternoon going through a desert flower garden, with a lot of cactus. There was a large sundial in the middle of it. Unfortunately I am in the process of moving and can’t find the picture of all of us at the sundial.
Sometime in the late 80’s Barbara lived with me for a couple months when she was transitioning jobs. We had some long conversations during those months. Barbara would listen to your opinion, but you weren’t going to sway her from hers. Made for lively discussions. She was still as lively and animated the last time I saw her – lunch with part of the ‘gang’ in March. Barbara was upbeat and very positive about her treatment. A real inspiration to all. I will always remember Barbara with fondness.
